The majority of homes in the Shannonside region have a C or D energy rating
New figures from the Central Statistics Office show Roscommon has the highest proportion of homes with an A and G rating respectively
A Building Energy Rating, or BER, calculates the energy efficiency of a home and can be used as an indicator of the running costs and carbon emissions associated with heating a house to a comfortable level.
Ratings range from A being the best to G being the worst
According to the latest CSO release there are 30,836 homes in Longford, Leitrim, and Roscommon with a BER rating.
Roscommon has 13,378 homes with a BER certificate with 5% of those having an A rating, the highest proportion in the region.
However Roscommon also has the highest proportion of G rated homes locally, at 12%.
9,113 homes in Longford have a BER rating, with the majority of homes, at 13% each, having a C2 or D1 rating.
4% of houses in the county have an A rating while 9% are rated with a G.
In Leitrim, 3% of the 8,345 homes in the county are rated A while 11% have the worst energy rating.
Nationally, there are over 1 million homes with an energy certificate, with 12% of those being rated as A.
