Longford's Cian McPhillips has been nominated for the 2025 male athlete of the year for the Olympic Sports Awards.
He joins Ben Healy, Fintan McCarthy, and Rory McIlroy on the shortlist for the award.
It comes following Cian's stunning display in the 2025 World Athletics Championships, where he broke the Irish 800m record twice.
Longford-Westmeath TD Micheál Carrigy says the nomination is well deserved.
Fine Gael councillor Gerry Hagan says McPhillips is capable of winning European, World, and Olympic titles.
