Longford TD Micheál Carrigy has been appointed as the chair of the Oireacthas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The Fine Gael Deputy was contacted by Tanáiste Simon Harris this afternoon and invited to the role.
The committee scrutinises legislation and policy relating to Housing, Planning and Local Government and works towards removing barriers in the provision of housing.
