A Longford senator says farmers' mental health will improve if planned leave gets the go ahead. The draft plan for the next Common Agricultural Policy includes paid holidays and sick leave for farmers.
It would also see a new subsidy introduced if a farmer needs bereavement leave or takes time off for training. Senator Paraic Brady, from Fine Gael, says farmers have not taken time off for generations:
