A Longford senator has called for an overhaul of the school transport system.
Micheál Carrigy has called for an improved system to allow families find out sooner if they have been successful in securing a place for their children on school bus transport.
He claims that it is not good enough that there is a system whereby a family applies for a tickets in April and do not find out until August whether they have a seat on a school bus or not.

He is also calling on the Department of education to re-examine its current embargo on people who are over the age of 70 from driving a school bus.
