A Longford councillor says raising the number of local electoral seats could encourage more female participation in politics.
It comes as Longford County Council holds an exhibition to mark the role of women in public office.
Only two of the 18 seats on Longford County Council are held by women, one of the lowest rates of female representation in the country.
Nationally, women hold 27 per cent of county council seats.
Fianna Fáil councillor Uruemu Adejinmi says more work needs to be done to address the lack of female involvement in local politics.
