Senator Joe Flaherty is backing Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy to get a cabinet ministry in the next government. Talks between Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Independents are continuing today, as they look to finalise a programme for Government. That needs to be done in the coming days if there's any chance of a new Government being elected on January 22nd. Troy resigned from a junior minister position in 2022 after he failed to declare property and business interests. Senator Flaherty says he would love to have him in cabinet this time around.
The Regional Independents is on course to be a junior partner in the next government. It includes Athlone TD Kevin 'Boxer' Moran. And Gabija Gataveckaite, political correspondent with the Irish Independent, believes he could also be in cabinet.
