A local TD says the immigration system must be fair to those living in the State as well as those seeking asylum. Martin Daly added that Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has brought new clarity to the immigration process. He was speaking following a recent protest against plans to accommodate asylum seekers in Roscommon town.
Noel Whelan has applied for an exemption to house asylum seekers at Academy House on Goff Street. An Bord Pleanala will decide next month whether to overturn an initial refusal by Roscommon County Council. The Fianna Fáil TD says it's important that people have confidence in the immigration system:
