Local schools record highest levels of Covid absences - INTO

Nationally 3,726 students and 605 staff members tested positive for Covid-19 in the union survey.

Schools in Roscommon and Leitrim have some of the highest levels of Covid positive students in the country according to a new report.

A snapshot survey conducted by Irish National Teachers’ Organisation interviewed almost 900 school principals nationwide over the first two weeks in November.

Locally, an average of 2.6 per cent of all students tested were absent between the 1st and the 16th of November.

School principals were asked a series of questions in the survey including the number of students and staff returning positive tests across a fortnight earlier this month.

Roscommon schools recorded the second highest positivity rate nationwide, with 3.8 per cent of students absent from school with the virus.

That's followed closely by schools in Leitrim where 3.5 percent of students in the county were confirmed to have the virus in the 2 week period.

Longford has reported levels consistent with most of the rest of the country in the INTO survey, with absence levels of almost 2 per cent.
