A 58-year-old father of three has died following a farm accident in Carigallen, Co. Leitirm. John Harkness, a dairy farmer from Aughavore, fell off the roof of an outbuilding yesterday. Gardaí, the fire service and the Health and Safety Authority all attended the scene and a post mortem has now been carried out.
The HSA confirmed to Shannonside Northern Sound they have launched an investigation into the incident. Mr Harkness' wife, Paula, contacted Shannonside Northern Sound earlier to urge farmers to be safe and save their families from heartbreak. John Harkness is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
