Fake insurance discs won't fool Gardaí according to local members of the force. Gardaí in Westmeath issued the warning to motorists after one driver was penalised for it earlier this week.
While on patrol, the Garda car's number plate recognition system alerted them to a car with no insurance. When stopped, local Gardaí found a photocopy of some one else's insurance disc with amended dates.
In a post on X, Gardaí gave the motorist 10 out of 10 for effort as well a fine and future court date. Separately, yesterday in Cork City, Gardaí pursued a vehicle that tried to avoid them.

The Garda Mobility App showed the car to be uninsured, while Gardaí found another fake insurance disc.
