Local farmers told to prepare for drought as dry spell continues

Farms in Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford have been busy in recent weeks due to early summer weather.

Farmers across the Shannonside region are being advised to prepare for drought conditions if the current warm spell continues.

Many are making up for what was a poor year weather-wise last year.

A representative with the Irish Farm Accounts Co-Operative Society Limited says farmers should be prepared should the dry spell continue beyond next week.

Sean McGovern, an Ifac partner based on the Cavan-Leitrim border office, says feed companies have seen an increase in demand:
