Counties Leitrim and Roscommon are two of only three counties to decrease in populations over the last century.
That's one of the findings of the recently published 1926 Census.
The National Archives have released the 1926 Census of Population records, which show that Ireland's population was 2.97 million that year.
Of those, 83,556 lived in Roscommon, 16 per cent more than 2022's total of of 70,259.
Leitrim has also seen a population decrease, going from 55,907 to 35,199.
Longford, however, has seen a population increase.
The county's population has gone from 39,847 in 1926 to 46,751 in 2022.
In terms of life expectancy at birth, it was 57 years for males and 58 years for females in 1926.
By 2022 this increased to 81 years for males and 84 years for females.
