The allocation of €7 million in funding will completely transform Connolly Barracks in Longford town. That's according to local councillor Peggy Nolan, who described the announcement as a good news story for the town. The funding falls under THRIVE - the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme. It's a €90 million fund to restore heritage buildings in Irish towns for community use. Cllr Nolan the allocation follows years of campaigning for funds to revitalise the derelict barracks, which closed in 2009:
