Local action group to highlight concerns of major windfarm development in Longford

The meeting will take place from 8.30 tonight at the Lanesboro Parish Hall.

A local action group will hold an awareness meeting this evening to highlight their opposition towards a major windfarm planned for South Longford. The No to Derryadd Windfarm group believes plans for 22 wind turbines near Lanesboro in Longford will severely damage any eco-tourism plans for the area. Bord na Móna Powergen Limited are seeking to construct the wind turbines across 34 townlands in the area. The turbine's would have a blade tip height of 190 metres, with access tracks, hard stands and substations also included in plans.

Bord na Móna Powergen are also proposing to over 7.5km of amenity access tracks from wind farm sites onto the Royal Canal Greenway, Corlea Trackway and the Midlands Trail Network. The meeting will take place from 8.30 tonight at the Lanesboro Parish Hall. Chair of No to Derryadd Windfarm, Niall Dennigan is urging local and national politicians to get behind the group and bring their concerns to Government:
