A Leitrim TD says the public dermatology service in Sligo is 'under extreme stress.'
It comes as the HSE has struggled to fill two consultant positions at Sligo University Hospital, with the only dermatologist in the Sligo, Leitrim, and Donegal area currently on leave until mid July.
Currently, there are 2,780 people waiting for an outpatient dermatology appointment at the hospital, including 909 patients waiting more than 18 months.
Sligo-Leitrim TD Martin Kenny raised the issue in the Dáil, saying many services in the North-West have been under significant stress for the past twenty years:
