Leitrim performer hoping for success at Mullingar Fleadh

The Fleadh returns home to Mullingar this year.

Musicians, singers, storytellers and dancers from across the Shannonside region are preparing to compete at this year’s All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil.

The competitions in a range of categories got underway in Mullingar this afternoon and will continue until Sunday evening.

It’s the biggest cultural celebration in the country and Kiltoghert native Catherine Cullen is hoping she can win an All Ireland title when she competes in the lilting, whistle and sean nos dancing competitions.

The local musician says it’s great to be back at the Fleadh following an absence due to the pandemic.

''I think that it's a great focus to practice and develop your playing more and you have an aim. You have something to be practising for, it's great to have it back again this year and hopefully it's back now for good.''
