Family members of people with disabilities, along with politicians, attended a meeting with the HSE in the Bush Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon last year.

The news was confirmed this week that the property has been fully acquired for use following a long battle for the service.

Leitrim and Monaghan are the only counties in the country not served by a care home for those with disabilities

Catherine Clerkin cares for her son David who needs round the clock care. She's delighted with the news that the contracts have been signed and the building has been acquired. However, the Drumshanbo mother says it should not have taken years of fighting to get the service.
