Leitrim & Longford County Councils failed to collect money from owners of derelict sites in 2023

The Derelict Sites Register, which records the sites subject to an annual levy, shows there were nearly 2,000 derelict sites around the country at the end of 2023.

Leitrim and Longford county councils failed to collect money from owners of 58 derelict sites in 2023. The Derelict Sites Register, which records the sites subject to an annual levy, shows there were nearly 2,000 derelict sites around the country at the end of 2023. There were 23 in Leitrim and 35 in Longford, but no levies were collected.

There were 33 derelict sites in Roscommon in 2023 - but less €3,000 was collected, with a further 58,000 euro outstanding at the end of the year. Sligo-Leitrim TD Martin Kenny, from Sinn Fein, has been reacting to the new figures:
