Leitrim historian supports calls to teach National Anthem in schools

A local historian has backed calls for the National Anthem to be taught in schools.

Amhrán na bhFiann is not mandatory learning at school but the government is being encouraged to make it a compulsory part of the curriculum.

Sinn Féin TD Conor McGuinness says the failure to include the national anthem at either primary or secondary level shows a "lack of respect for Irish heritage".

Leitrim man Seán Ó Suilleabháin gave his thoughts on the Sinn Féin TD's call on the JF Show earlier this week.
