Leitrim has the highest percentage of vacant homes in the country.
The Irish Independent reports there are 558 uninhabitable residential properties in the county - which is 3 per cent of its housing stock.
Roscommon has the second highest percentage, at 2.6 per cent, with 845 homes derelict.
There are 372 uninhabitable homes in Longford - which is 1.9 per cent of its housing stock.
The cabinet will today approve plans to impose a tax of at least 7 per cent on derelict properties, to be collected by Revenue.
