Leitrim's Garda Superintendent is urging all motorists and business to embrace a plan to pedestrianise the Carrick-on-Shannon town centre for the next three months at weekends.
No traffic will be allowed access the Main Street from the Bush Hotel to Flynn's corner from Friday's evenings at 6pm to 8am on Monday from tonight until mid-September.
Leitrim County Council confirmed Wednesday that it was proceeding with plans to exclude traffic from the town centre following on from a survey carried out earlier this year that they claimed broadly supported plans to make the area car free.
However, some businesses have expressed concerns at the plans, claiming that it will lead to a decrease in commercial traffic to the town.
