A Leitrim councillor is calling for property owners to be given at least €100,000 to refurbish a derelict home. Leitrim has the highest number of vacant homes in Ireland, at nearly 12% - and a further 3.4% are derelict.
There are refurbishment grants available from the government - but they're capped at €70,000 for a derelict home. Carrigallen councillor Paddy O'Rourke says that should be increased by €30,000- and he says other changes are needed also:
