Michael Holland Senior will take Anthony Waldron's seat on Roscommon County Council today.
He'll be co-opted on to the local authority - with at least 13 of the 17 councillors set to back him at a special meeting today.
Waldron died in February and his family wants Holland, from Ballintubber, to replace him on the Independent benches.
