Justice Minister committed to providing domestic violence refuge spaces in midland counties

A review published by the children and family agency Tusla last week highlighted the lack of domestic violence spaces available, especially in the more rural counties

Justice Minister Helen McEntee says she's committed to seeing that domestic violence refuge spaces are created in the Shannonside region  as soon as possible.

The Minister was speaking during a visit to Longford yesterday where she took time out to go to Longford Women's Link and speak to women there about the issue.

A Tusla review published last week identified ten locations around the country, including Longford, Roscommon , Leitrim , and Cavan/Monaghan where it said there was 'significant under-provision of refuge spaces'.

Eight family places are to be provided in Cavan/Monaghan, and another eight in Longford, under the recommendations contained in the Tusla report.

Minister McEntee says she fully recognises the urgency of making safe places available for people under threat.
