Irish troops begin final training ahead of Lebanon UN deployment

The situation on the ground in Lebanon remains tense as Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged fire over the last week.

Over 300 Irish troops are entering their final phase of training, before being deployed to south Lebanon.

Members of the 123rd Infantry Battalion will join up with the United Nations Interim Force next month, as the conflict between neighbouring Israel and Hamas continues.

Lebanon has said continued "aggression" against Gaza could spark "fire that could consume the whole region".
