The interim pumping system will be switched on at Lough Funshinagh later this week. The flood relief scheme will see water removed from the turlough to the Cross River in the townland of Carrick in Roscommon. 2.5 kilometres of piping will be used to bring excess water from the lake through Curraghboy and into the south Roscommon river.
It comes after planning permission was granted by An Bord Pleanala in January. The system will be turned on by Minister for the OPW Kevin 'Boxer' Moran this Friday afternoon. Local councillor Laurence Fallon says it's another positive step in bringing an end to the flooding crisis:
