Ineligible claims from Northern Ireland causing delays to Storm Éowyn supports
Storm Éowyn caused destruction and power outages across the Shannonside region.

The Humanitarian Assistance Scheme was set up in January following the devastating weather event.

A Leitrim councillor says ineligible applications as well as claims from Northern Ireland residents have caused delays with Humanitarian Assistance Scheme payments. The scheme was set up in January after hundreds of thousands of people were left without power following Storm Éowyn. Since then, it has been hit by a number of issues including confusion around the application process.

Cllr Enda McGloin says many applications are from those who are not entitled to supports. He also said the recent response to a parliamentary question by Longford TD Micheál Carrigy shows evidence of some claims from residents of Northern Ireland:
