A Roscommon councillor says the government must increase housing targets in order to keep up with demand.
Cllr Marty McDermott was speaking following last week's Roscommon Municipal District meeting.
He says current targets are too low and the state must look to build 10,000 to 15,000 more homes this year.
The Fianna Fáil councillor, however, also accused opposition parties of being unrealistic when it came to the housing crisis.
He says the Government was doing its best to address the issue:
Cllr McDermott was also critical of claims that Taoiseach Micheál Martin wasn't taking the issue seriously.
