The HSE has described the suspension of most mental health day services and in person activities at the Ashbrook Centre in Mullingar as "regrettable".
It follows multiple calls by Westmeath County Councillor Hazel Smyth for their reinstatement as a matter of urgent priority.
In a response to a motion put forward by Green Party councillor Hazel Smyth at a meeting of the Midlands Louth Meath Community Health Organisation, Head of Mental Health Services Dervila Eyres said the Ashbrook Day Centre service is operating by appointment only for urgent or prioritised cases.
She said they understand that changes to day services are impacting on some service users and that this is regrettable.
The services have been suspended in line with national HSE guidance in order to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19.
Cllr Hazel Smyth says the HSE hasn't taken enough action to help address the situation.
Ms Eyres says once they have permission from National HSE Community Operations and Public Health, full day services and group activities will resume but in the meantime, clinics are operating regularly by phone and those that cannot manage phone are having face to face contact so that frequency is not reduced.
