A Fianna Fáil councillor has criticised the HSE for its handling of the closure of a local nursing home chapel. The chapel at the Sacred Heart Home in Roscommon town has been closed for the past 18 months due to fire safety concerns. Residents and their loved ones are now receiving mass in a living room on one of the wards in the healthcare facility. Cllr Marty McDermott says the closure of the facility has caused much distress among residents and their families as well as the wider community:
The Roscommon councillor described the HSE's costings for upgrade works as 'astronomical'. He called for a proper process to be put in place for evaluating the work needed to bring the chapel up to standard:
