The HSE has clarified that the new centre in Galway is an elective day hospital, and no beds were ever planned.
Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West John Connolly raised the issue in the Dáil yesterday.
The development in Merlin Park was previously described by the Government and HSE as a "200 bed" hospital.
Concerns were raised that that there was backtracking on plans to build the new facility, with an ever-increasing need for beds.
