Hopes proposed N4 projects will benefit local region

The long-awaited N4 Mullingar-Longford upgrade and Carrick-on-Shannon bypass were both included.

The Carrick-on-Shannon bypass was just one of the projects included in yesterday's National Development Plan announcement.

1.3 million euro was previously allocated towards the project earlier this year by Minister for Transport.

When completed, it will involve a 6-kilometre bypass of Carrick, from the Dublin Road to the Boyle Road in both directions.

Local auctioneer Liam Farrell says he would prefer to see some minor adjustments on existing routes:

While the long-awaited N4 Mullingar-Longford upgrade is also included in the plan.

It is expected that it will cost between 500 million and one billion euro, with construction set to commence after 2030.

Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien said the road projects earmarked for investment were "critically important" and that the Government would be held to account over a failure to deliver.
