Two local nursing homes have received largely positive reports from the health watchdog.
Inspections of both Arus Carolan in Mohill and Oakwood Private Nursing Home in Roscommon town were carried out in April, the details of which have been published today.
Arus Carolan is registered to accommodate a maximum of 34 residents and on the day of this inspection, there were 33 residents living in the centre.
The inspectors found the setting to be extensively refurbished with residents provided with a comfortable and accessible living environment.
Staff demonstrated a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and residents' responsive behaviours.
Residents told the inspectors that they felt very safe and secure in the centre.
Overall, residents were found to receive a good, safe service but their quality of life would be enhanced by improvements in the management and reduction of restrictive practices.
Oakwood, meanwhile, offers long and short-term care for 56 adults over the age of 18, including people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or dementia.
Inspectors found there were sufficient numbers of staff available with the required skill-mix to meet the assessed needs of the residents.
The registered provider was also found to have ensured that the designated centre is suitable for the assessed needs of the residents.
However, audits did not always identify areas of poor practice, and therefore, action plans were not created to mitigate the risks associated of cross-contamination identified on inspection.
