The Health Minister has dismissed claims that recommendations from a 2018 report have not been implemented at Portiuncula Hospital. Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill told the Dáil that both the HSE and HIQA assured her the Walker Report into maternity services had been acted upon. However, local TD Martin Daly said the CEO of the HSE, Bernard Gloster, told the Oireachtas Health Committee that they had not.
He said the contradiction was 'deeply concerning'. In July, the HSE confirmed that high-risk mothers can no longer deliver their babies at the facility - and must go to other units. Deputy Daly outlined his concerns to the Health Minister:
