The Health Minister is encouraging Mayo people to continue using the minor injuries unit in Roscommon Hospital. Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar is dealing with continuous overcrowding. A new minor injuries unit will open in Ballina next year.
But Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill told the Irish Independent Mayo people should continue to use the Roscommon facility, if it's most convenient for them. Councillor Valerie Byrne, from the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee, agrees:
