Government under fire for voting against minimum wage bill

It would have abolished pay rates for young workers that are below the €13.50 an hour minimum wage.

The government has come under fire for voting against Labour’s National Minimum Wage Bill. The bill, tabled by Sligo-Leitrim Senator Nessa Cosgrove, would have abolished pay rates for young workers that are below the €13.50 an hour minimum wage.

Currently, workers under 20 have a lower minimum wage than the rest of the national workforce. Labour Senator Cosgrove has been outlining the reasons behind the bill:
