Government under fire for its approach to agriculture in Budget

Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny says questions still remain over proposed Mercusor Trade Deal.

The government has come under fire for its approach to agriculture following Budget 2026. Funding for the ACRES scheme is set to increase by €20 million next year. While over €157 million has been earmarked as part of the Budget to tackle the increasing rate of TB in Ireland.

However, questions still remain over the proposed Mercusor Trade Deal and its impact on farmers. Sinn Féin Agriculture spokesperson and Sligo-Leitrim TD Martin Kenny such deals have a number of knock-on effects:
