Parts of the government's plan to re-open the economy are expected to be sped up tomorrow.

The government asked health officials to give the go ahead to move forward some parts of the exit plan.

Cabinet Ministers will meet tomorrow to approve moving to the second phase which involves the re-opening of retail stores, small social visits in the home and an increase in the distance people can travel from their homes.

There's also going to be an increase in the number of people that can attend funerals and a return to training for sports teams.

The government asked NPHET to approve the speeding up of some parts of the programme, but Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that must be done carefully.

It comes amid criticism from politicians of the slow nature of the re-opening of the economy, including from Fianna Fail leader Micheál Martin.

Cabinet Ministers are meeting face to face tonight for the first time since March in a socially-distant meeting in Dublin Castle.

Tomorrow they'll meet again to approve moving into phase two of the recovery plan.
