The Irish humanitarian response agency recently confirmed that its staff, which includes 28 employees in Ireland, may be affected by layoffs due to funding cuts from the US and a number of countries in Europe.

According to the local representatives, an appropriate intervention from Government on this matter is "overdue."

Junior Foreign Affairs Minister, Sean Fleming, said Ireland's expertise was in providing humanitarian aid.

While the militant group insists no one will be harmed, there is said to be an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among the population.
