The man who died in a house fire in Roscommon yesterday evening has been remembered as a pleasant neighbour by local residents.
Those living in The Oaks housing estate in Frenchpark have been plunged into sadness following the death of Des Deegan after an explosion at his home.
His property was destroyed in the blast and subsequent blaze while other homes were also damaged.
Fire services from Boyle and Ballaghaderreen attended the scene and the body of the deceased was removed for post mortem late last night.
Local parish priest Fr Micheál Donnelly said residents were shocked and saddened by the incident:
Fr Donnelly said the deceased man was well liked in the estate:
The community is also thinking of his partner Alice, who suffered an aneurysm in May 2023.
Des had been fundraising to adapt their home to accommodate her disabilities and to facilitate her return home from rehabilitation.
