Gardaí will continue to have an increased presence on the roads today, as part of their Christmas safety campaign.
They say the festive period is one of the most dangerous times of year for road users, with too many lives still being lost and serious injuries occurring in preventable collisions.
Over three thousand checkpoints have been carried out so far this month, and hundreds of people have been arrested for drink or drug driving.
