Gardai believe chalk markings outside homes linked to pet thefts are used to irritate homeowners

Gardai in the region believe some gates are being marked with chalk to irritate or stress people over possible dog thefts, and not for stealing

Gardai in the region believe some gates are being marked with chalk to irritate or stress people over possible dog thefts, and not for stealing pets.

Social media has been filled with reports of animals going missing in recent weeks, and homeowners in the region have reported chalk markings and cable ties which are allegedly linked to 'marking' houses where dogs might be vulnerable to being stolen.

Between January and June 2019, 107 dogs were taken countrywide, and so far this year 76 dogs have been reported stolen, and gardaí are urging people to take precautions to secure their pets.
