The Garda who was killed while carrying out a speed check in north Dublin yesterday afternoon had strong links to County Roscommon. Garda Kevin Flatley, whose father is originally from Ballinlough in west Roscommon, died after he was hit by a motorcycle near Lanestown shortly before 1pm. The motorcyclist is in a serious condition following the collision.
The Garda Commissioner has paid tribute to Garda Flatley, describing it as a reminder of the dangers faced by members of the force.
