Funeral of former Longford goalkeeper John Heneghan takes place

He was goalkeeper on the county’s history-making 1966 National League and 1968 Leinster Senior Football Championship winning teams.

The funeral mass of John Heneghan has heard of his success on the Gaelic football field.

The late Mr Heneghan enjoyed a sterling playing career with the county.

He was goalkeeper on the county’s history-making 1966 National League and 1968 Leinster Senior Football Championship winning teams.

A Ballymahon clubman, he served as team mentor and goalkeeping coach in the 1980s and was named in the Longford 'Team of the Millennium' in 2000.

Speaking during the homily, chief celebrant Fr Liam Murray says John made a great impact wherever he went:
