It's hoped that long-term funding can be secured for two autism support officers in Leitrim following the success of a pilot programme in the county
The pilot initiative was established to support autistic young people at critical educational transition points.
At this month's meeting of the local authority, Cllr James Gilmartin proposed a motion urging the Minister Norma Foley, to provide sustained financial support for at least two such officers in Sligo-Leitrim.
The Independent representative says while the pilot has proven effective, its future remains uncertain without a guaranteed funding stream.
