Elphin Windmill has been allocated funding under the Heritage Investment Scheme. From rural areas and rural villages, the scheme helps protect historic structures, enhance streetscapes and keep traditional building skills alive for future generations. The sails were torn off the 300-year-old structure during the deadly Storm Éowyn.
It has been a popular tourist attraction since it was restored almost 30 years ago. In total, Elphin will receive €35,000. Local Cllr Valerie Byrne has spoken of her delight:
