Four arson attacks on asylum-seeker accommodation linked buildings

There have been at least 4 arson attacks on occupied, proposed or rumoured international protection centres in the Shannonside region over the last seven years, a new report has found.

Almost 40 incidents have targeted buildings linked with accommodating asylum-seekers since 2018 according to a new report from the Hope and Courage Collective.

They are an organisation that monitors far-right activity in ­Ireland, among those are eight locations linked to threats or hoaxes in the same time period.

The most recent incident occurred in Drogheda two weeks ago, when a number of people, including children, were hospitalised after the building contracted by IPAS was set alight.

Ballinamore's Rock Centre saw the first incident locally in October 2019.

This was followed by two incidents in the space of a month at the Shannon Key West Hotel in Rooskey in January and February of 2022.

While, the former site of the Sisters of Mercy in Lanesboro was targeted in January 2024.
