The Shannonside region is on track to throw away an estimated €38 million in food waste this year.
Research from the Environmental Protection Agency indicates that the average Irish household wastes an estimated €700 of salvageable food annually.
With the amount of occupied households in the region, this works out as €38 million in potentially wasted food over a 12-month period.
