Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice says efforts will continue to oppose the Mercosur Trade Deal despite the EU voting to back it.
He was speaking in Athlone today as thousands of farmers staged a protest against the deal.
Yesterday's vote will see almost a hundred thousand tonnes of South American beef gain access to the EU market.
Deputy Fitzmaurice says today's protest forced the Irish Government into a No vote following months of speculation.
